UEN Scavenger Hunt

Technology in the Classroom Assignment

The UEN Scavenger Hunt was helpful and enlightening in many ways. This has helped my own knowledge and creativity in seeing what sources are out there for teachers. As a prospective English teacher, it has already proven useful in giving me areas to search for lesson plans on different topics. It was great to see a source that linked the standards of the Common Core State Standards to actual lesson plan. I know I will use this now and in the future. In addition, using the Pioneer Library showed me the wealth of sources that are right there for me as a teacher and also for my students. Not only that, but I could see me using each area that I created sections for: the lesson plans and rubrics, the interactives, the parent resources, etc. As I continue to prepare to be a teacher, I can review the lesson plans, interactives, and other resources. In familiarizing myself with them, I will begin to develop a foundation to draw on when I am planning lessons as a teacher. I looked over the parent resources and other sections, I was struck by how many different things are available. Someone pointed to these sources wouldn’t just have one question answered, but maybe find answers to other questions that they maybe hadn’t considered yet. Having gone through each section on the process, I now have a page that I can refer back to if I need to reference specifically one area on the UEN website.

Technology plays a vital role in the classroom and can aid learning in several ways. PowerPoint presentations give students a source to look at in understanding key points, seeing images of people and places discussed, and making information accessible to students. Video and movie depictions aid in teaching, giving visual representations of desire learning outcomes as well as providing access to material that otherwise would be unavailable. Computer technology allows easier completion of assignments through the many different programs that are found on it. Also, in research and writing, the internet allows access to journals, articles, and other sources of information. For a teacher, having a knowledge of the different sources of technology that are available can aid them in teaching so that students learn the material. Technology is vital in the classroom because it aids the teacher in his or her teaching and provides a source of knowledge that will help students succeed in a modern, technological world.
